Planning your visit
Travelling for rib remodeling (RIBXCAR)
Rib remodeling (RIBXCAR) starts with an assessment of suitability. Plan the postoperative checks and care after returning home as well as the operation date.
- Suitability assessment first
- Travel and stay decided individually
- Plan binder use and follow-up

Tell us before booking
- Tell us your departure city or country, preferred dates, possible length of stay and whether someone can accompany you.
- Discuss the change you hope for, rib fractures or chest surgery, lung disease, osteoporosis and medicines. Surgery may not be advised after assessment.
- Mention flights, long journeys and plans to resume driving, lifting or physical work.
Prepare existing records
- If you have a chest CT, prepare the images and report. Ask how to bring them; do not arrange a new CT before receiving instructions.
- The doctor checks whether existing imaging is sufficient. Further assessment, including 3D CT of the ribs before surgery, may be needed.
- Bring existing bone-density or lung-test results, surgical records and a medication list. Follow individual instructions on fasting and medicines.
Plan each stage of care
- Consultation and tests: goals, health, rib anatomy and risk factors are assessed before deciding suitability.
- If surgery is chosen: confirm the operation and anaesthesia plan, preparation, observation, binder and cost before agreeing dates.
- After surgery: arrange checks before departure and later follow-up. Less pain does not mean the bone has healed. Visit counts and stays are not fixed for everyone.
Before arranging travel and accommodation
- Discuss postoperative checks, a companion and any stay before booking transport. Do not assume same-day departure or a flight the next day.
- Driving, flying and long travel depend on recovery from anaesthesia, pain, breathing and individual assessment. Arrange help with bags and movement if needed.
- Check change conditions when booking transport or accommodation. Do not set leave or return-to-work dates from the operation date alone.
Plan care after returning home
- Before leaving, confirm the binder type, fit and duration, what to do about skin or pain problems, the next visit and contact arrangements.
- Follow-up assesses pain, breathing, recovery and bone healing. Postoperative CT is based on clinical need rather than an identical schedule for every patient.
- For sudden breathlessness, worsening chest pain or fainting, seek immediate help at a nearby emergency department or via the local emergency number (119 in Korea). Do not wait for a clinic reply or return travel. Update the treating clinic after emergency assessment.
Common questions
Does a consultation booking include surgery that day?
No. Suitability, necessary tests, risk assessment, explanation and preparation come first. A consultation booking does not confirm an operation.
How many days should I stay in Seoul?
The operation, anaesthesia and recovery, transport and postoperative checks all matter. A fixed short stay cannot be promised. Discuss a provisional plan and possible changes before departure.
